What to Expect from SEO (Search Engine Optimization)

When you purchase a website optimization review report from Ask Joanne, LLC you get a detailed roadmap for you or your webmaster with page by page recommendations on what changes need to be made to your site's page titles, keywords, description and text content to improve your search engine rankings for your primary search terms. Also included are suggested changes to site navigation, information architecture, and other important site elements that could be effecting your site's ability to convert visitors into leads/sales/donations.

Search Engine Optimization is, however, a long term strategy. Do not expect to get instant top 5 rankings the day after you get your reports! Once ALL the recommendations in the report are implemented it can take 2-3 months for an existing site and up to 6-8 months for a new site to begin to show improvement in the search engines.

How much of an improvement you get in rankings, traffic and conversions (leads/sales/donations) depends heavily on how competitive your market is. Optimization is the first step, in addition to that we recommend link building, email marketing, and pay-per-click advertising.

Successful internet marketing is a cyclical process. After you've optimized your site, you MUST track and analyze the results and tweak them as necessary to achieve optimal results. Methods of tracking and analyzing include using Google Analytics (we have a how to setup analytics tutorial on AskJoanne.com) and Google Webmaster Tools.

Age REALLY matters to Google

While noodling around in Google's webmaster tools this morning, I discovered something interesting. Before I focused my business on internet marketing, I was doing work as an all-around computer consultant and helped clients with things like reconciling Quickbooks, adjusting their mouse scroll speeds, attaching files to aol emails and other computer issues.

To that end, I created individual pages on my site that addressed those issues with "how to" instructions for my clients.

Well, this morning I found out that my page for How to Reconcile a Bank Account in Quickbooks
comes up #1 on Google for the keyphrase "reconcile quickbooks". It comes up ABOVE the results for the Quickbooks support forum!

Just another reminder that putting quality relevant content up your website (with accurate page titles) now, rather than later, can pay great dividends in higher rankings in the long run.

Graphical Link Maps - TouchGraph

There's a neat service out there called TouchGraph that will show you a graphical representation of internet links. You can enter keywords or a domain name to see a color coded link map. The link maps include both actual hypertext links and in the case of using keywords versus a domain name in the search box, it will show semantic links.

Here's a portion of the map that comes up for www.askjoanne.com:

They also have two additional versions... one for Facebook.com and another for Amazon.com.
